Holden and Phoebe Goodell Judson Fund of
Whatcom Community Foundation
Fundraising for the Holden & Phoebe Goodell Judson statue, a Foundation fiscal sponsorship, is in full swing. The bronze replica of the Lynden founders (Holden standing behind his wife Phoebe, seated at a park bench), will be installed in front of Lynden’s newly constructed City Hall. A plaque near the statue will describe the interconnection between the Judson, Goodell, Allyn and Roeder families, beginning with their 1850s migration along the Oregon Trail to Northwest Washington. The Judsons eventually settled in the area would become Lynden while the Roeder family was prominent in Bellingham history.
Project supporters, including numerous Judson descendants and other relatives, are working to raise $100,000 for the project. Local sculptor, Bob McDermott, is already working on the first phase of the impressive work. Personalized engraved paving stones and brass plaques are available from $50 to $10,000 each. They will form a plaza around the statue. If you would like to honor the Judson family’s extraordinary contribution to Lynden’s history, please send your check to the Foundation, noting “Judson Fund” in the memo section, or click on the Donate Now button to the left. If you have any questions, please contact the Foundation at 360-671-6463 or via email at wcf@whatcomcf.org. To purchase a paver or plaque, please click here to fill out form.
