Competitive Grant Application Process

Whatcom Community Foundation (the Foundation) is a nonprofit, publicly-supported philanthropic institution that manages a pool of charitable funds whose income is used to meet the changing needs of the greater Whatcom County community. The Foundation serves as a funding partner to area nonprofits that engage in community-building projects in Whatcom County.

We welcome your interest in the Whatcom Community Foundation, and we encourage you to read carefully our mission and grant principles and policies.

This year will be a one phase grant round, therefore we will not ask for Letters of Interest prior to the full grant application.  All applications must be submitted online using the link below to start a new application.  You may save your application and return to finish it at a later time using the “My Account” link and password below.

Available Funding

The amount of funding available in each field of interest varies depending on incoming donations and income available from designated funds. Exact amounts available will not be certain until later in the grant round. The Grants Review Committee may decide to fund a project with unrestricted funds if funding is not available in a specific field of interest. We anticipate having funds available in the following fields:

Arts and Culture
Children with Special Healthcare Needs*
Environment
Mental Health
South Fork Community Fund**
Youth and Family
Sportsmen/Person funding to support outdoor youth activities, programs, and conservation efforts primarily related to hunting and fishing
Unrestricted

*Children with Special Healthcare Needs
Children with special health care needs are those who have or are at elevated risk for chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions and who also require health related services of a type or amount not usually required by children.

**South Fork Community Fund
This fund supports effective educational, social and recreational programs, and services for children, youth and families to help build community in the South Fork Valley area. The fund was established in 2000 to benefit the area of Whatcom County which lies between Mt. Baker Highway on the north, the Whatcom/Skagit County line on the south, the Mt. Baker-Snoqaulmie National Forest on the east and Stewart and Anderson Mountains on the west, including all of the Highway 9 and Mosquito Lake Road corridors. It may also be used for activities which take place in the Mt. Baker High School complex or other areas when those activities benefit youth and families in the South Fork area. Creative projects are encouraged.

Additional information will be posted as available.
