Bellingham Scholarship Recipient, Hannah Truong, Receives National Honor

Last February, while Hannah Truong was finishing her senior year at Squalicum High School, she applied for local scholarships through the Whatcom Community Foundation’s Whatcom Dollars for Scholars program. Hannah was one of 83 graduating seniors from Whatcom County high schools to receive a scholarship last year. The online application process also gave Hannah access to national scholarships. One of those awards was the Community Volunteer Service Award scholarship. Hannah was one of only twenty-four students across the country to receive this award; an impressive achievement on its own.

Hannah received an additional honor when Scholarship America (the national organization for Dollars for Scholars programs) announced that Hannah Truong was selected as the 2013 Scholarship America Dollars for Scholars National Student Volunteer of the Year. Along with this prestigious award, Hannah was featured on the Katie Show this fall, in a segment that also featured her parents who shared their moving story of immigrating to the United States with few resources, and relying upon their daughter for help with translating English.
